NFL's dirty little secret: players suffer

According to Jeff Pearlman, football is bad for you. He states that several players suffer from concussions and injuries to the whole body. Some football players think that the league doesn't care about the players; they only care about the money. I think they are right that they suffer a lot, and the league doesn't care about their health in the long run. The league wants to increase the number of games to 18, and it will also increase the damaged players. I think they are ok with having 16 games. They mention testimonials from famous football players that have permanent body damage to convince us not to follow them.

Eyeglasses are the greatest invention ever!

Did you know eyeglasses came about way back in history during the time period 1000 A.D.?  Eyeglasses over time have become not only useful but also fashionable. Glasses are a great invention.  If not invented, people might have had a hard time seeing objects. Eyeglasses are the most valuable invention of all time because they aid in the ability to see clearer, protect the eyes from the elements, and reduce the occurrence of eye strain causing migraines.

First, eyeglasses have been developed with prescription lenses that help you see clearer.  “According to the latest data, around 126 million citizens of the United States of America currently wear eyeglasses. Since there are around 300 million people living in the United States, that's almost half of the population. Gone are the days where wearing eyeglasses was seen as an abnormality with a stigma attached to it” (“How Many People Wear Eyeglasses”). Without eyeglasses, the average person would not be able to see clear enough to enjoy reading a book or operating an automobile.

Next, eyeglasses protect your eyes from weather such as snow, rain, ice, and dust.  Eye protection is a requirement when riding a motorcycle, participating in a shooting sport, and necessary when skiing to name just a few.  Some eyeglasses can transition in the sun to a darker lens to protect eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays.  “Like a ‘sunburn of the eye’ it may be painful and you may have symptoms including red eyes, a foreign body sensation or gritty feeling in the eyes, extreme sensitivity to light and excessive tearing ("pasadenaeye.com"). For example, Oakley has a brand that offers a variety that are able to protect from the sun and the snow, “Whether your choice is ski goggles, motorcycle goggles, snowboarding goggles, wrap sports eyewear or any other prescription goggles/eyewear, Sportrx will make eyewear to your custom specifications.”  ("Sportrx.com/") It doesn’t matter what you do, these glasses will protect you in any situation, not to mention how much clearer you will see objects.

The third reason that eyeglasses are the most valuable invention of all time is that they reduce the occurrence of eye strain that causes migraine headaches.  When a person strains to see objects near or far, they are causing stress on the eyes that can lead to a migraine headache.  Simply having your eyes checked by an optometrist will cure such headaches for life. “When the lens and cornea do not work correctly, the image that the eye sees is out of focus. This causes a strain on the muscles of the eye as the person will strain his or her eyes to see clearly” (“Causes For Headaches Behind the Eyes”).

On the other hand, opposers of eyeglasses as the best invention might argue that eyeglasses are uncomfortable.  This is an incorrect point of view because if they are uncomfortable it is only because they have not had them fitted properly. All you have to do is go to an eye doctor and have them adjust the eyeglasses to fit your face.

In conclusion, eye glasses are good because they help you see clearer, protect your eyes from the elements, and reduce the occurrence of eye strain, which causes migraines. Over time eyeglasses were developed to not only help vision but can also be fashionable. You should go to an eye doctor for a vision check to see if you need glasses.
